According to the patient and the indication, various anaesthesias are possible

Local anesthesia : it is a method of pain prevention in a small area of the body, usualy performed by the surgeon.  The medication used is commonly called numbing medication.

Local peripheral anesthesia : if it is necessary to block pain from a larger but still limited part of the body or if the patient wishes to remain unconscious during the operation, the anesthesist will provoke a light sleep at the same time as the surgeon will perform the local anesthesia.

Regional anesthesia : the best example of this method is the peridural anesthesia used during child deliveries. It is used in aesthetic surgery for liposuctions and abdominal surgery.

General anesthesia : this method will keep the patient completely asleep during surgery.
